Deric's Testimony
Hey! My name is Deric Cain and I'm 28 years old. I was born in
Birmingham, Alabama and I had a great childhood growing up with
everything a kid
could ask for. I have loving and supporting
parents who would do anything for their only son. During my
teenage years I experimented with drugs and then later in my
life continued to abuse them up to the point of full-blown
addiction. I used drugs for about 10 years and went through
various treatment facilities, which told me that I had a
disease.
In the middle of all this I had a little girl who was born.
I only saw her for the first few months after she was born.
My addiction had taken control
of my life which took me out of hers. I ended up doing
whatever I needed to do to get high, which left me a
criminal as well as homeless. One day the police knocked on
the door of the truck
I was sleeping in and told me that I
had a few warrants for my arrest. They took me to jail,
where I sought any option to get out of there. The pain had
finally grown strong enough to make me want to change.
September 14, 2007 I came to Pensacola Teen Challenge and
that is the day my life would forever be changed. I had a
few bumps in the road while I
was
in the program, but I was taught to lean on something bigger
than me to make it through the trials. That something was
Jesus. It is the same Jesus that has taken me off of
the streets for over two years now and also the same
Jesus
that has restored the relationship with my daughter. Now
when I go to visit, she doesn't want "Daddy" to leave. I
thank God everyday for her and the miracle of who she is and
also for allowing me to be in her life.
The doctors can
label what I had a "disease", but I know the ultimate Healer
and I no longer have a disease. I have the love and comfort
of the all-powerful Jesus Christ!
